The Battle Tank is a land vehicle in Base Wars and is the primary land vehicle players would use for ground vehicle combat. As one of the most armored vehicles in the game, the Battle Tank can take heavy punishment from nearly every direction except the bottom and back. The vehicle is also one of few vehicles to have a gunner.

History

Note: This history is entirely fictional and sourced from the BW Fictionmania Wiki

The Battle Tank is a name used to refer to the M-450 Main Battle Tank, mass produced by Cerberus Mechanical Systems. Utilizing highly advanced composite armor arrays, the tank can withstand far more punishment than most other vehicles on the battlefield. Do note however, that most of this armor is placed on the front, sides and top of the tank, with the bottom and back areas of the tank being prioritized less, leaving the vehicle rather vulnerable from those two areas.

General Information

Being a tank, the vehicle has the highest health of any ground vehicle at 7000. Coupled with additional armor which reduces all incoming damage by 78% of damage from the front and 70% of damage from the side and top of the tank. The Battle Tank by default has a HEAT Cannon that deals high damage towards other vehicles and infantry.

The Battle Tank also comes with a gunner that by default has a 20mm Machine Gun that can quickly mow down any infantry and even punish light vehicles. The gunner can also do self repair to the tank itself which heals 1700 health. Though there is a 15 second cool-down between repairs.

The vehicle however does have some weaknesses, the top speed of the vehicle is the slowest among the ground vehicles of 75 km/h, which is the same as the Artillery. The size of the Battle Tank makes it an easy target to hit and most notably the rear of the tank which only reduces 25% of all damage. This makes it so that the vehicle can be easily taken out of most of the incoming shots hit the rear. Still, the Battle Tank is a strong ground vehicle in the right hands and can easily take out most vehicles in a handful of shots.

Loadout Slots

The Battle Tank can use a variety of weapons, mostly enhancing the vehicle's capability to deal heavy damage to vehicles. Some of which are meant to combat infantry. The gunner has access to various secondary weapons that are meant to combat infantry or even vehicles, although the secondary weapon is dependent on the player who intially spawned the tank for those who want to play as a tank's gunner. The Battle tank also has a few defense options that would increase overall protection from a particular direction.

Note that the Gunner weapons of the Battle Tank is the same as the primary weapons on the Jeep

Primary Weapons

The High-Explosive-Anti-Tank Shells is the Tier 1 primary weapon of the Battle Tank and does balanced damage towards vehicles and infantry.

General Information

The High-Explosive-Anti-Tank Shells' damage is very high at 3150 direct damage per shot and does 1000 splash damage within a 5m radius. The high splash damage itself can easily kill most players though more armroed players may survive the splash damage. The very high direct damage allows it to instantly kill all but the most armored infantry.

The high direct damage will also allow the weapon to deal moderately high damage to other vehicles especially towards other tanks and armored vehicles. Although it is quickly outclassed by other primary weapons, it is still a rather balanced option agaisnt infantry and vehicles.

The 57mm AP Autocannon is one of two Tier 2 primary weapons that is unlocked at 5000 Battlescore and trades overall damage per shot for a higher rate of fire.

General Information

The 57mm AP Autocannon' damage is far lower than other primary weapons only doing 800 damage per shot and doing 500 splash damage within a 4m radius. The lower damage however is made up by its higher rate of fire of 240 RPM which allows it to output its damage at a faster rate.

The weapon is best suited for engaging multiple players and less armored vehicles and while it does have a magazine size of 7. the weapon still reloads faster at 2.65 seconds. Agaisnt vehicles like another Battle Tank or Artillery the weapon is less effective due to the lower overall damage. Though a single magazine actually does more damage than a single shot from High-Explosive-Anti-Tank Shells.

The Armor-Piercing Shells is one of two Tier 2 primary weapons that is unlocked at 5000 Battlescore and has very high direct damage at the cost of splash damage.

General Information

The Armor-Piercing Shells' damage is very high at 4250 damage per shot, this alone is enough to instantly kill any player if hit directly by the shell. Not even players wearing the Heavy Armor Suit can survive a single direct hit from it. The very high damage allows it to do far more damage to vehicles, it is capable of doing large amounts of damage to even the most armored vehicles. It can even take down other Battle Tanks and artilleries with a handful of shots.

The downside of such power is that it does pitiful splash damage, at only 500 within a small 2.67m radius, the splash damage barely does any significant damage unless the player was wounded before.

The High-Explosive Shells is a Tier 3 primary weapon unlocked at 15000 Battlescore and does very high damage to infantry at the cost of overall damage to vehicles.

General Information

The High-Explosive shells' direct damage is rather low at only 1875 damage per shot, this alone hurts its overall damage towards most vehicles, especially other Battle Tanks or Artilleries. The low damage towards vehicles however is traded by the fact it does 1750 splash damage within a huge 12m radius.

This alone is enough to essentially vapourise any player within the blast radius, although players wearing the Basic Armor Suit or Shielded Armor Suit who also have all the VIPs that increase total health may be able to survive its splash damage althoug just barely. Players wearing the Anti-Explode Armor Suit will barely be harmed and players wearing the Heavy Armor Suit can easily shrug off the splash damage.

While it reloads far more quicker than its peers at only 1.75 seconds, the fact that its velocity is nearly cut in half at only 175 m/s makes it rather hard to use the weapon at longer ranges.

The Dual HEAT Shells is a Tier 4 primary weapon that is unlocked upon getting 10 Rank S Vehicles and basically is a double barreled tank cannon.

Generl Information

The Dual HEAT Shells' damage is lower than average at 2150 damage per shot and only doing 750 splash damage within a 5m radius, this is made up by the fact the weapon can fire 2 shells in quick succession at 240 RPM. This gives the weapon a substantially higher damage output than even the Armor-Piercing Shells, but damage per shot is still lower than the aformentioned shell. The weapon also reloads faster than most at 2 seconds which also further allows it to output more damage per second.

There is not many downsides aside from missing the sheer power of the Armor-Piercing Shells, though one very apparent downside is when viewing in first person, the sheer size of the weapon obstructs most of the player's view on the left.

Secondary Weapons

The 20mm Heavy Machine Gun is a Tier 1 secondary weapon of the Battle Tank and is main role is to mow down infantry.

General Information

The 20mm Heavy Machine Gun's damage is high at 250 damage within 100m and 188 damage at 150m and beyond. The high damage and long damage drop means the weapon is effective against infantry at basically any distance. Although the poor accuracy at range prevents the weapon from being too effective at range. Along with a 50 round magazine and a high rate of fire of 750 RPM, no infantry can survive.

Against vehicles however is rather poor, while it is surprisingly effective at taking out most aircraft the weapon suffers greatly when used against more armored vehicles including jeeps with upgraded armor. Although an unarmored jeep will easily be destroyed under constant fire.

The High-Explosive Grenade Launcher is one of two Tier 2 secondary weapons that is unlocked at 5000 Battlescore and is designed to tackle large groups of enemies.

General Information

The High-Explosive Grenade Launcher's direct damage is high at 750 per grenade with very high splash damage of 1000 within a 4m radius. The very high damage of the weapon can easily obliterate enemies with only a handful of grenades. Along with a fire rate of 240 RPM and a magazine size of 24, the weapon is very deadly and should not be underestimated. Players wearing the Anti-Explode Armor Suit or Heavy Armor Suit may prove troublesome to kill due to their resistance to explosives though the latter is easier to kill due to their slow movement speed.

Against vehicles, the weapon performas much better than the 20mm Heavy Machine Gun although it still performs rather poorly agianst armored vehicles. Lightly armored vehicles such as the Jeep, ATV and most aircraft will be destroyed with a handul of shots though jeeps with upgraded armor would be more durable agaisnt it.

The 85mm Armor-Piercing Rocket is one of two Tier 2 secondary weapons that is unlocked at 5000 Battlescore and is meant to be used against vehicles.

General Information

The 85mm Armor-Piercing Rocket has incredibily high direct damage of 2750 per rocket though has rather low splash damage of 500 within a small 2.67m radius. The sheer damage of the weapon allows it to pose a threat against any vehicle. Even the more armored vehicles will easily be destryoed by the weapon, although with a slow velocity of 300 m/s, hitting targets on the move at longer distances may prove to be a challenge especially aircraft.

  • Artillery: x1.5
  • Jeep and ATV: x1.15

  • Navy: x2.5
  • Defensive Turrets: x0.45

The Railgun is a Tier 3 secondary weapon that is unlocked at 5000 Battlescore and has unparrelled accuracy and relatively high damage.

General Information

The Railgun's damage is relatively high at 900 damage within 400m and 600 damage at 600m and byeond. While its damage allows the wepaon to instantly kill players wearing the Assassin Armor, Swimsuit Armor and Light Armor Suit, the weapon is requires more shots to kill any player that is wearing basically any other armor. Towards vehicles however, the damage is surprisingly high due to the weapon's damage multipliers although its damage towards most aircraft is rather low.

While damage is lacking when compared to the 85mm Armor-Piercing Rocket, the Railgun has 2.5x higher velocity at 750 m/s and does not have bullet drop. This makes the weapons far more accurate and makes it easier to hit targets on the move.

The 30mm Armor-Piercing Chaingun is a Tier 4 weapon that is unlocked upon getting 10 Rank S Vehicles and has a very high rate of fire and can easily shred basically anything.

General Information

The 30mm Armor-Piercing Chaingun's damage is similar to the 20mm Heavy Machine Gun though its damage would drop to 125 damage at 150m and beyond and does 200 splash damage in a very small 1m radius. The additional splash damage alone gives the weapon much higher damage towards infantry although the damage increase towards players wearing the Anti-Explode Armor Suit and Heavy Armor Suit is negligable.

The weapon's key strength is its rate of fire of 1200 RPM. This along with a large magazine size of 150 rounds allows the weapon to fire for longer before needing a reload and because of the damage of the weapon, it can also easily shred vehicles with just a single magazine. However the weapon's accuracy is much worse at range and along with a slow velocity of 350 m/s and a reload speed of 4 seconds, the weapon is not suitable for long range engagements.

Defense

Standard Tank Armor is the default defense option for the Battle Tank and provides increased protection from all sides.

General Information

Standard Tank Armor by itself gives the Battle Tank incredible resistance from the front and sides, giving damage resistance of 78% and 70% respectively. This alone allows the Battle Tank to survive a large amount of rockets, tank shells and artillery shells and continue fuctioning. The Battle Tank's top armor also gives a high resistance of 70% making shots from above less of a concern.

However, the rear armor and bottom armor are least armored giving only 25% resistance. This by itself means that a Battle Tank is heavily vulnerable from the back as any weapon would deal greatly increased damage. The low resistance of the bottom armor means that driving over a trench may be a hazard as players in the trench can fire rockets doing large ammounts of damage from below.

Despite this, the Standard Tank Armor protects the Battle Tank from being easily destroyed by enemy rockets, missiles or shells.

Reinforced Front Armor is a defense option that is unlocked at 5000 Battlescore and provides increased resistance from the front.

General Information

The Reinforced Front Armor simply increases the front armor resistance to 83% from 78%. A 5% increase may not sound much, but this essentially makes the Battle Tank far more harder to destroy from the front as it increase overal shots to kill substantially.

This makes the armor well suited for a head-on fight agaisnt another Battle Tank or Artillery. Although because of this increased resistance, vehicles like the Jeep or Vortex would try and outmanuver the Battle Tank and target the back of the tank to deal increased damage.

Reinforced Front Armor is a defense option that is unlocked at 15000 Battlescore and provides increased resistance from the sides.

General Information

The Reinforced Front Armor increase side armor resistance to 80% from 70%. This 10% increase essentially makes side armor act like front armor but with slightly higher resistance. This gives the tank a near all round protection from three directions.

This makes the tank much harder to kill overall from any direction that isn't from behind as the side armor covers more area overall than front armor.

Trivia

  • The Battle Tank was the most common ground vehicle in the game until the introduction of the ATV
  • The model of the Battle Tank is made by Cephro. Though the Railgun and 57mm AP Autocannon models were made by Nomander and Uprise951.
    • The tank's design may have taken some inspiration from the Merkava Main Battle Tank.
    • The older model of the tank was based on the Leopard 2A4 though it had wheels instead of tank tracks.
      • It has been confirmed that the overall design of the vehicle is based on the Vanguard from Planetside 2.
  • In older versions of Base Wars, one was able to knife the driver to death. This feature was removed at some point.
  • Its odd that the Battle Tank lacks any form of Coxial machine gun that is present on every tank. This may have been done due to balancing or technical reasons.
